Codeine is largely preferred for the feelings of euphoria, relaxation, apathy and other associated comfort by habitual drug users, but strangely, it has been associated with some non-drug users who bizarrely use it as a fattening pill of late. As an opiate, codeine induces tolerance and eventually creates insatiable dependence on it. Codeine use can lead to respiratory failure, kidney and liver malfunction, coma, and even death.
