HUSH-HUSH: Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) thrives under-hand
Despite the sustained Anti-FGM campaigns by governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations, the practice thrives underground. Parents living in parts where the tradition is not practiced are sneaking their daughters back to the hotspots to perform the archaic operation. In most cases, this is orchestrated by the mothers, ironically, without the knowledge of the fathers, and sometimes both parents connive. Shalgade Research Consultancy is aware of cases that turned almost tragic due to the clandestine manner in which the operation was done and the rush against time that prompted travels when the wounds were still sore. We gathered sufficient information on undocumented prevalence and we are intending to probe into the mix of socio-cultural factors earning the vice a conducive habitat to thrive.
